The Mental Health MatchUp is a mutual aid project facilitated by ATX Mental Health Fund that matches Austin area community members with each other to give and receive emotional support during the holiday season and beyond.
We know that this year has been particularly challenging for many people experiencing social isolation during Covid-19. This project is one small way to try to provide connection and support to community members during this difficult time.
If you sign up to participate in the program, you will be matched with a Mental Health Buddy who will provide a listening ear, validation and support over the next three months (and hopefully beyond!) In return, you will provide support to your buddy as well.
Mental Health Buddies will:
1. Check in with each other at least once a week.
2. Give space for their buddy to share their experiences.
3. Actively listen, validate, and provide support to your buddy.
4. Share your experiences and receive validation and support from your buddy.
You do not have to have any mental healthcare experience to be a mental health buddy. The program is open to individuals with a mental health diagnosis, and those without a mental health diagnosis. You will receive your Mental Health Buddy match in early december. The program is completely free to participate in.
